Sunny spends a lot of this book feeling confused about who she is, who she loves, and what kind of a person she is allowed to be. Sunny’s story is beautiful and I felt a lot of sympathy for her. When her biological mother comes back into her life a new girl begins to challenge her perceptions of the world, Sunny’s world is turned upside down. Having a new heart, Sunny believes that she feels different about herself, that she wants life to be something different. James follows Sunny, a girl who got a recent heart transplant. Her books are challenging but they also give me hope, and The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. Both Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the Word and Girl Made of Stars got five stars from me because they left me an emotional train-wreck. On my way to Montreal in February I decided I needed to read a new Ashley Herring Blake book. Huge thank you to Hachette Book Group Canada! This sweet, tender novel dares readers to find the might in their own hearts. But it’s the layouts that take the book to new heights of creativity. Lemire tells two stories at once by turning the panels upside down, disorienting the reader as much as his heroes. It’s a technique that worked long ago in Dave Sim’s Cerebus, and it works even better here, with clever parallels between plot lines. The script isn’t quite as tight, and refers to grandiose concepts in vague language throughout. Those with the patience to reread and decode Lemire’s alien messages-both literal and figurative-will be rewarded. ![]() This book represents a challenge to other creators: the bar for creativity in comics continues to be raised. ![]() ![]() Rule 3: Debunk/Debate Response Requirements There will be a post each Saturday where you can make these requests. The only reason why I did not give it a five star rating is that, no matter how comprehensive, the author failed to take into account the testimonies of the more religious elements of Abdul Hamid's entourage to give us a better picture. ![]() ![]() The details and testimonies of the people involved really shed lights on perspectives and despite the fact Abdul Hamid II did not write his biography, Haslip tries her best to recreate the Sultans life based on third party accounts in a chronological order in each chapter with a foreshadowing of the far future, which can be easily understood by those who have a rough idea how future events would play out. On this account I would praise Joan Haslip for compiling a fair and balanced account of one of the greatest Sultans not only for the Ottoman Empire but also the one who would be considered the last effective Caliph of Islam.
